September 11: 100 years in the Making

I have often wondered how the USA and the Middle East became such great enemies. If you have these thoughts, I suggest you see a documentary called Road to 9/11. The documentary is simply fascinating. It tracks a century of relationships between Irag, Britain, USA, Germany, Palestine, Israel, and others. These relationships lead to Sept. 11.

The documentary also gives you a glimpse into the USA/Israel and Palestinian conflicts.

So, if you are one of those people whose world was shattered by what appeared to be a random act of hatred Sept. 11, 2001, check out this documentary. After seeing it, I wondered why I hadn't learned more about these relationships in the media and in my history classes. I was also stunned that it took 100 years for the situation to escalate to the Sept. 11 bombings.

I'm not going to sit here and say I agree with the violence. What I will say is that after seeing the documentary and watching the years of conflict, I have a better understanding of why it happened. I also have a better understanding of why the USA is hated by many of the middle eastern countries. The conflict didn't begin with Ayatollah Khomeini, Quadafi, or Saddam Hussein. It dates way back, even before WWII.

I also understand why Israel and Palestine continue to fight. I had been led to believe the fighting was due to the ancestral relationship of the Jews and the Muslims. Both groups are descendants of Abraham and as such are heir to his belongings. The fighting is much more complex than that. If you look at a map of Palestine and Israel, you will see that the placement of Israel makes it virtually impossible for the two to separate themselves. Their boundaries flow in and out of each other.

If you really want to understand what happened September 11, 2006, check out the documentary.

I would say that this is more like a thousand years i the making. Christianity and Islam have always been at odds with each other. As have Islam and all other forms of Judaism...which, to me, means that none of these groups have mastered peace.

I also think that Zionism is just as flawed and oppresive as any other concept that tries to justify the "divinity" or rationale for invading another country.

I agree, the groups have not mastered peace--as evidenced by the thousands of years of war. I believe there will be NO peace between the groups until they can accept that:
1. Each group is entitled to see G-d according to how he chooses to see him.
2. Each group stops trying to force the other to see G-d according to the format promoted by his religion.

I also agree that using "divinity" as a rationale for invading another country is flawed. Whether we use the term "divinity" or "religion", at their base, these terms represent belief systems that promote the value of life. When they are used as reasons to invade countries and kill and oppress their inhabitants, they are at best flawed.
